After years of creating images fired on glass, I’ve pivoted to making images on paper with printmaking, keeping the spirit of transparency and subtle color changes. A class on vitreography helped the transition: at Pilchuck Glass, I learned how to use glass as a printmaking plate, instead of the traditional metal or wood. Glass can be etched, sandblasted, engraved with a series of fine glass tools or engraved with a laser. The glass plate is then inked and run through a printing press, much like an intaglio etching.

Since that first class, I’ve added to my techniques, including collagraphy, drypoint, engraving on glass and copper, and relief printing to achieve my creative ideas. Just as glass has held my imagination all these years, printmaking is proving to be fertile ground for continued exploration.

I welcome visitors to come and see what I’m working on and I host shows throughout the year. Please see Events. Instagram #bazazglass
